Taylor Townsend completes Sunshine Double with Miami & Indian Wells doubles titles

Taylor Townsend completed the Sunshine Double on Sunday by winning consecutive WTA 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Miami, partnering with Czechia's Katerina Siniakova at both events. The pair lost just a single set in their 10 match wins across both tournaments.

 

“It’s been a really long month, but so successful for both of us,” Townsend said after winning her first Miami title. “It’s really exciting. Everyone was trying to put it on us about the Sunshine Double. Well, we did it.”

Townsend and Siniakova are just the sixth women's doubles team to capture the Sunshine Double, with Townsend the second American to achieve the feat in the discipline. Lisa Raymond swept Miami and Indian Wells three times, with Rennae Stubbs in 2002 and with Samantha Stosur in 2006 and 2007.

 

Having debuted at doubles world No. 1 last July, Townsend is back in the Top 5 after her flawless March. She opened the month by winning the Austin title with Storm Hunter and has now won 14 consecutive matches dating back to late February. The Miami title was Townsend's 14th tour-level crown and her fourth at the WTA 1000 level.

 

Townsend and Siniakova defeated top seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini 7-6(0), 6-1 in the Miami final and also beat the Italians in the Indian Wells semis. They downed fifth seeds Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic, 7-6(4), 6-4, in the Indian Wells title round.

Townsend's three consecutive titles also extended a larger championship streak for Americans: a U.S. player has now won a tour-level singles or doubles title in seven consecutive tournament weeks. Since the start of the 2026 season, an American has reached a WTA, ATP or Grand Slam final each tournament week of the year, including the Australian Open fortnight.
