Navarro saves match points, Pegula & Townsend send U.S. to Billie Jean King Cup semifinals

Navarro, who was playing just her second match for the U.S. BJK Cup team, trailed in all three sets against Putintseva but rallied for the win with an assist from her team and captain Lindsay Davenport.

"A lot of grittiness and a lot of resilience and the pride of playing with my country's flag on my shirt, knowing the support I had from the sidelines, looking over and seeing my teammates cheering me on," Navarro said of her comeback. "There's a different type of energy when you can look over and see that. Yeah, I think a little bit of Team USA, a bit of team pride, and a lot of grittiness today."

While Pegula missed out on a chance to clinch the tie in a Top 10 singles showdown with Rybakina, who played a near-flawless match, the former doubles world No. 1 teamed with current doubles No. 1 Townsend to finish the job for the U.S.

"I just took it as a challenge and wanted to kind of redeem myself a little bit out there against her, try and help my team get a win. Even though I wasn't able to do it on the singles court, we had a chance to take it in doubles," Pegula said. "I haven't played with Taylor in such a long time, so that was fun to get back playing with her."
